Building Inspections

Rural Planning District Commission building inspectors provide three inspections following the issuing of a building permit.  Inspections are performed:

  1. Prior to backfilling for foundation walls, or prior to pouring concrete for concrete slabs and ICF-type foundations;
  2. Prior to drywall; and
  3. Upon completion.

If you are constructing on a slab or basement, or altering the structure of an existing building, an inspection for compliance with the National Building Code (1995) will be performed.  Inspections will not be performed for construction for which a development permit is issued.

The permit holder is responsible for notifying the building inspector at least 1-2 working days prior to backfilling, at least 1-2 working days prior to sheathing interior walls, and within 10 days of the completion of construction.  When calling to request an appointment for a building inspection, we will need the name on the building permit, the construction address and the inspection requested.  Please leave a message if no one is available to take your call.

For more information on building inspections, please contact the building inspector at the Rural Planning District Commission office serving your area.
